Why A/B Testing is Important and How to Do It Best
At Oswald, we are constantly testing and iterating on performance so we can always deliver the best performing ads for our clients. One of the ways to do this is through A/B testing. A/B testing might sound intimidating, but it’s actually a simple tactic with countless benefits.
Quick Refresher on A/B Testing
As a quick refresher, an a/b test is where you compare two versions of something, like an ad creative, a headline, or a landing page, to see which one performs better. You show “Version A” to part of your audience and “Version B” to the other. You’ll look at which version performs better. From there, you can move forward with the version that gets better engagement.
The nice thing about A/B testing is that it removes the guesswork. Instead of assuming what might work, you get real data from your actual audience. Once you know what’s working, you can use that approach to get better results.
What Can You Test?
You can A/B test all kinds of things, such as
- website content
- email subject lines
- images,
- Pricing
- Graphics
- Video
- Ad Copy
- And so much more!
A/B testing helps you find out what’s eye-catching and what’s not. This helps you improve your content and keep people engaged.
Benefits of A/B Testing
Another benefit is higher conversion rates. When you figure out what is working, you can then turn that insight into an action. These small improvements lead to better performance across your website, social media, and other channels.
If you’re wanting to conduct an A/B test, try and keep it simple. Focus on one element at a time, whether that’s a headline or a picture. Run both versions at the same time and give the test enough time to gather results. Our recommendation is to run the test for a minimum of 2 weeks and a maximum of 6-8 weeks. So a sweet spot would be about a month (4 weeks).
Post-Test Wrap Up
Once the results are in, tailor your campaign to what you’ve learned. A/B testing helps you improve every piece of content you create. It also keeps your brand moving in the right direction.
If you’re not already testing, now’s the time to start. And if you don’t know where to begin, let Oswald help you out. We’ll help you test, learn, and grow, whether it’s your website, ads, or email campaigns.
